Holiday in Portsmouth 1952
In the summer of 1952, The Granger family stayed at a holiday camp,
which was probably Silver Sands Chalets camps, at Eastoke on Hayling Island.
This camp was closed later in the 1970s. New houses now occupy part of the site, appropriately named Silversands Gardens.
One trip out was to nearby Southsea, where Richard had a ride on the Southsea miniature railway (SMR) which ran along the seafront by the childrens' play area.
Next to that was a motor boat lake, which Dad also went on, taking Richard along to make it look sensible.
On other days, much use was made of the beach.
